Greetings From Helen

Dear Staff,

Halloween is upon us!  Enjoy your kids, our clients and the celebrating adults in our offices and in our neighborhoods.

We are busy in all three offices.  We’ve just signed a new lease for an addition to our Culver City office.  We will be adding a meeting room, a lunch room, new therapy rooms, a kitchen and a storage room.  This additional space should be ready for January, 2016.  It is on the fourth floor of our current office site.  We are excited!

Our Culver City location has had its challenges, first the air conditioning died during the worst of the heat wave, then a pipe burst outside but managed to flood four of our offices, and then there were bugs!  I’m holding my fingers crossed that all is now well!  Thank you to Jasmine, Jennifer, Maria and the entire Culver City staff for all your patience during this very difficult period.

Our East Hollywood office appears to be getting busier and busier and our Encino office is busy with staff training, clients and our wonderful administration, keeping it altogether.  I am so very thankful for all of you and all you’ve all contributed to our company.  We are still growing and expanding our services.  We can all be proud of our company’s achievements.

As we near Thanks giving I want to say “Thank You!” for our association.  I hope that all of you will get to spend this wonderful holiday with family and loved ones.  Do let me know if you are new to Los Angeles, and would like to join me at my home.  I’m rarely in Los Angeles during this very special time, but this year I plan to be.  Please let me know.

Warmest regards to all,

Kudos to Arthur Samvelian!

Mr. G. just called and spoke very highly of Arthur’s work skills with
A.G. at his elementary school. He wanted us to acknowledge
Arthur for all the great work he is doing with his son and he
has seen a difference with his son since Arthur took over the case.

WAY TO GO ARTHUR!!! —you can NEVER leave A.’s case =)

Shellie’s Strategies and Support

Sesame Street introduces its first character with Autism!

There was a really interesting piece on the news about a nearly blind photographer that has beautiful photos of his autistic sons.  The photos really capture the emotion and world of autism – here’s the story.

Fun Halloween Therapy Ideas!

Thank you Rina Barak for sharing some fun Halloween therapy ideas!

  • Here’s a spooky worksheet to practice following directions:
  • Read the book “Monster Needs a Costume” by Paul Czajak for Kinder through 3rd graders.   It’s an easy book to scaffold with good vocabulary and all of the kids will LOVE it.
  • If you can use food, this is a favorite!  – Make spiders out of marshmallows (or banana) for the body, chocolate chips or raisins for the face and pretzel legs for a fun treat.  You can work on any goal during this activity!  Kids can earn each piece with correct answers, sound productions or behaviors!  Then eat the treat as a reward!

Chirsty’s Corner-Health Benefit Enrollment

Health benefit enrollment is upon us.  December 1st is our open enrollment date.  If you are averaging 30 hours a week and have been doing so for more than 60 days, you are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and chiropractic insurance.  Once enrolled, SLEA contributes $350 a month towards your benefits.

We have HMO and PPO for both medical and dental and have an excellent vision plan with VSP.   Even if you are not interested, we must have you sign a waiver stating you are waiving coverage.  Please reach out to HR and we will send you the information and answer any questions you may have.

Happy November Birthdays!
